Who is to blame the husband or the wife?
Here i am refering to the Panama couple. The man who faked his death, destryoed a canoe and dissapeared. And his wife who declared him dead, got the life insurance money, lied to the kids that they father is dead meanwhile he lived in the wardrope in the next apartment got a passport by false name and relocated to Panama.
Wife sells house and relocates to Panama. Then some months later Husband turns up in a police station in the UK and claims he seems to be a missing man and fakes Demensia (Memory Loss)
The pictures came out that dates 2006 with wife in Panama. Wife cries and admits fraud, Kids go mental because mum and dad lied to them and wants no further contact with both parents.
Mum flies in and is arrested, Dad is alsobeing held without bail. This is a PERFECT SUPER CON.
WHAT WENT WRONG AND WHO IS TO BLAME?

Thanks Ralph like you said, its a premeditated crime. I personally think the wife must have upset the husband and he took revenge on his wife by giving himself up.
It was the perfect crime but something happened that we will never know that made the hubby give himself away.

I have also wondered if the husband took revenge on his wife.
However, he was living dangerously. He was years hidden in the bedsit in Teeside. I saw a newspaper report that somebody he knew met him fishing.
So an imperfect crime. But insurance fraud is serious...and even worse deceiving the sons.-

Oregano same here, I have A very strong feeling things were not rosy in the marital front when they moved to Panama.
The worst deceit of all is lying to their sons. The biggest crime than can ever be committed by someone trusted is DECEIT.
I won’t say it was an imperfect crime but rather a perfect crime as not even the insurance company, the police, the Home Office
Detected that it was a big scam…..
I feel so sorry for them as they are both old and will end up in Jail. The husband deserves a good hiding…..

two things I keep thinking about:
1. why did he come back to the uk, after all he had managed to go to Panama before. Why didn't he simply stay there?
2. Are we sure that the kids didn't know, or where they part of the plot. If they didn't know, I don't think they'd ever be able to forgive their parents. If they did, naturally, no one will ever admit it. -

I have missed out on this - was it in the news recently?? Sounds dead nteresting, but i think the ages of the kids could make a difference to their reactions, but without knowing the news story i cant really comment can i?
when i was naughty once my mum pretended she only had 6 months to live, to try and make me behave better - i have never been so utterlly destraught as that time, so yeah, to tell them their dad was dead when he wasnt is terrible isnt it. BUT - IF they WERE in on it, i agree, brilliant scam.
Its not a matter of who is to blame. This is a premeditated crime. The couple planned it, but either became over confident, or just could not continue hiding anymore. How else would you explaining them posing together for a picture with their estate agent, and then the man showing up at the Police station with the amnesia story.
I feel for their kids though, who have rightfully washed their hands off their parents.
They were able to keep it going for 5 years, and maybe could have kept it going for another 5 years. It was sheer greed. The couple planned it, the wife claimed the life insurance, sold their home, bought a new one in Panama, and started transferring money to Panama. Hell,... she should have known the day of reckoning would come soon.
